Believe one who has tried it... A roman poet called Virgil once said “believe one who has tried it.” And many of us do. In 1998, I was engaged in two research projects one was looking for ways to reduce emotional distress. Real ways. Things that truly worked and where the benefit stood the test of item. The other thing I was researching was the meridian system that acupuncturists have been using for thousands of years. I’d learned something about meridians and I was looking to take my knowledge to a deeper level. Imagine my surprise when I found a technique that reduced emotional distress and used the meridian system to do it! It was called EFT - Emotional Freedom techniques. I was very excited, but cautious too. I started trawling the internet for more information and kept coming back to the same site: The Association for Meridian Therapies. They had a few articles, and a chart with points on it that you were supposed to tap and you’d feel better. When I first saw the chart I was actually disappointed and thought “oh no, this doesn’t look like it’s going to work, tapping these points and saying how you feel, it sounds to vague and made up.” But then there were the articles by people who’d tried it. And as Roman Virgil advised, I was inclined to believe them. Eventually, I found a phone number and called someone who told me, “it’s bloody brilliant, you have to try it for yourself, whenever anyone gets anxious in our family we say tap for it.” Tap for what? Tap how? Tap where? OK I have the chart, I printed it out, but I’m still not sure how to do this! Luckily for me, there was a training arranged in a few weeks time that would show me what to do. It was the first ever EFT training to be held in Europe and was attended by a handful of optimistic yet cautious folk. After two days of hearing the tales of others who had tried EFT and, better still, trying to for myself, I was convinced. EFT works, it works very well, sometimes amazingly well. So well that I wrote a book about it and started traveling the UK presenting EFT in workshops at natural health shows.
